To help me in a spelling module, can you make up two or more couplets, quatrains or whatever with the following rhyme words: appall(ed), embarrass(ed)(ment), occurrence, committee, assess(ed)(ment), access(ed)(ible)(ion), possess(ed)(ive)(ion), illness, success, commission and any other words containing doubled consonants? Paul L. Briand, 2/1/82.
I found your note in my mailbox, Paul;
It's calculated to appall
The poet in me, and to harass,
Annoy, outrage, and embarrass
All members of the faculty,
Whether alone or in committee.
It's difficult for me to assess
Its effect on ordinary asses.
I doubt it will have much success
In a module of limited access;
Spread it wide to reappear
In the annals of the cosmic bookkeeper,
That hordes may catch this lettric illness
Which their professor seems to possess.
Let me but say that the commission
Of this module brings no remission
Of your past or your future sin
Hence, be not clad in moccasin
To catch the laughing spelling loon
Or the orthographical raccoon,
But show forth boldly at the occurrence
Of error, and trust to its deterrence.
I wish you well at the upwelling
Of instances of stunted (er, student) misspelling.
