ODE LANG SYNE FOR GEORGE

There is no rhyme for O’Connell!

And George has a birthday this week!

Perhaps I’ll use an old funnel

To pour out the poem I seek,

Or maybe squeeze through a tunnel

To access his reaching this peak;

Or, since I once was a sailor,

I’ll perch on the edge of this gunwale

And give these verses a tweak –

But no, this is only a runnel

And not the whole Chesapeake.

 

I guess I’m simply a failure

At this attempt at poetic

License. I’ll buy an electric

Train for my pal – I’m eclectic!

A train with the brand name “Lionel”

For George, the artist, O’Connell!
