THE RETURN OF POWER
A Carol for Xmas Day 2013
By Lewis Turco
No longer must we hide and cower,
For we have seen the return of Power!
On Christmas Eve our Light had fled,
Our Heat had cooled, and we had fed
On nothing more than milk and bread –
No longer must we hide and cower,
For Santa did not burn his hide
When down our stack he had to slide,
To land upon our ashes wide,
For we have seen the return of Power!
While we were sleeping Central Maine
Power gangs worked not in vain.
When we woke up to life again,
No longer did we hide and cower!
All praise to those good men and true
In cherry-pickers (not a few)
Swinging as the night wind blew,
For we have seen the return of Power
Upon this wholly snowy day,
For all the ice has whipped away –
We need no longer swear and pray,
No longer must we hide and cower!
Our visages no longer dour,
The drizzling clouds no longer lower
Over our brows wrinkled and sour:
No longer must we hide and cower,
For we have seen the return of Power!
